Chamber supports “Tampa For Haiti” Memorial Service

TAMPA, FLORIDA: An Interfaith Memorial Service was hosted by the City of Tampa.  The Caribbean American Chamber along with the HEP, HAF, CCA, HAA and Mango Radio ( Caribbean civic associations, organizations and private sector from Tampa Bay) organised the event. The memorial service was held on Friday 19 February, 2010 at the newly opened Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in downtown Tampa in honor of persons that were affected due the recent earthquake on the island nation of Haiti.

Attendees included local dignataries, civic and business organisation leaders, county commissioners, the Caribbean American community, Ambassador of Haiti, Washington D.C. His Excellency Raymond Joseph, Mayor of Tampa Pam Iorio, and Consul of Haiti Laurent Prosper. The memorial service gave attendees a time to  grieve, reflect and show their country’s resilience. “It is important for the community to have a chance for closure and to realize it is OK to move on,” said Derek Lloyd, one of the organizers and President of the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay.
